How to Style a Holiday Mantel

December 15, 2020 by shoppe

The holidays are a special time, and décor plays a big role. The possibilities are endless when it comes to holiday décor, and you can elevate every room and every corner of your home. One of the more popular areas that people tend to decorate is their mantle, which often becomes a focal point during the festive season. Fireplaces are in rooms where families gather, so it makes sense to decorate this piece so that it stands out during the holidays. This way, you and your family can spend your days and nights enjoying this space, and your decorated mantle will provide the room with beauty and charm. Additionally, a stylish mantle will also help create a cozy atmosphere, which is what the holidays are all about.

There are countless ways of decorating mantles, and while there are no real rules when it comes to décor, there are ways of styling it right, and the following ideas will provide you with some inspiration this holiday season:

Try Draping Your Garland To One Side
Your mantle does not have to be perfect, so do not focus too much on measuring and getting décor pieces right because an unbalanced appearance will actually look better. Draping your garland to one side will create an imperfect look that is also elegant, so your mantle will look very stylish. Try laying your garland flat over the top and allow one side to hang lower than the other to create a unique look that you will love. If your garland is not heavy enough to weigh down on its own, you can secure it under one of your stocking holders.

Place Unequal Amounts Of Décor Per Side
Try staggering your décor to create a better effect, so instead of placing equal amounts of décor per side, unbalance items instead, as this will create more interest along with a more stylish appearance. If you do drape your garland to one side, place taller décor items on the other side, as this will create a more appealing effect. If you are not going to be using a garland, try placing tall potted plants and greenery on one side and shorter holiday décor pieces on the other. Contrasting décor is always better, so stay away from equal and perfect amounts and try unbalancing items instead.

Add Extra Décor Features To Your Stockings
Most people prefer a uniform appearance when it comes to their stockings but still want to personalize them to set them apart, and you can do this by adding bells, ornaments, letters and ribbons to each one. Adding these elements in different colours will not only elevate your mantles décor, but will help set each stocking apart, so you will achieve personalization and style.
